TPG Interview

This case study interview was conducted by TPG as part of its 2022 on-cycle recruiting process. The assessment asks the candidate to evaluate an asset in the renewable energy sector. As part of the interview the candidate is expected to build an LBO model, prepare a short investment memo, and present their findings.

 The candidate is provided with two documents: 

  • 1) An interview prompt which outlines the case study’s instructions and provides relevant transaction assumptions
  • 2) An asset primer, which provides an overview of the assets business model, financials, and relevant market dynamics 
  • 2) A model template

The candidate is expected to prepare two outputs: 

  • 1) An LBO model which includes sources & uses, income statement, build to levered FCF, debt schedule, equity returns, and relevant sensitivities
  • 2) An investment memo which outlines the candidates view on the asset’s business model, merits and risks of the investment, and the candidate’s ultimate investment recommendation.

 Following completion of the model and memo, the candidate is expected to present their findings and defend underlying assumptions throughout an interactive Q&A session.
