The Sterling Group Interview

This interview conducted by The Sterling Group asks the candidate to evaluate an asset in the business aviation sector, with the ultimate goal of determining whether the asset would be an attractive candidate for an LBO transaction. 

In addition to the interview prompt, the candidate is provided with two documents:

  • 1) A management presentation which outlines the assets business model, customer base, operating model, historical & projected financials, and relevant industry dynamics
  • 2) A LBO model template 

The candidate is expected to prepare two outputs:

  • 1) A short investment memo which outlines the candidate’s investment recommendation / thesis, the return profile of the transaction, relevant merits & risks of the deal, and topics for further due diligence
  • 2) A completed LBO model based on the provided template

Following completion of the model and memo, the candidate is expected to present their findings and defend underlying assumptions throughout an interactive Q&A session.
