Oaktree Capital Management Interview

This model test was conducted by Oaktree Capital Management as part of its on-cycle recruiting process. The assessment asks the candidate to evaluate a potential buyout of an asset in the consumer sector. 

The candidate is provided with two documents: 

  • 1) An interview prompt which outlines the interview’s instructions and provides relevant transaction assumptions
  • 2) The asset’s historical financials

 The candidate is expected to prepare two outputs: 

  • 1) An LBO model which includes a variety of modeling quicks (e.g., operating model, etc.) 
  • 2) Responses to a list of questions related to the transaction which include how much the candidate would pay for the asset, how the transaction could be financed, relevant risks and merits of the business and considerations surrounding margin and revenue outlook
