Brentwood Associates Interview

This case study interview was conducted by Brentwood Associates in 2023 as part of its on-cycle recruiting process. The interview asks the candidate to evaluate an asset in the Beauty & Personal Care industry with the ultimate goal of determining whether the asset is a suitable buyout candidate.

 The candidate is provided with three documents: 

  • 1) An interview prompt which outlines the case study’s instructions and provides relevant transaction assumptions
  • 2) An asset primer, which provides an overview of the asset’s business model, product portfolio, historical financials, growth opportunities, and relevant market dynamics
  • 3) The asset’s balance sheet

The candidate is expected to prepare two outputs: 

  • 1) A three-statement LBO model which includes a variety of modeling quirks such as commitment fees, mandatory amortization, case functionality, management options, and more
  • 2) An investment memo which outlines the candidates view on the asset’s business model, merits and risks of the investment, product portfolio analysis, quality of earnings considerations, topics for further due diligence, and the candidate’s ultimate investment recommendation
